2018 Race Instructions

A few last minute details:

Everything is going to plan, apart from the weather. Looking at the forecasts it looks like we are going to have quite a lot of rain especially tomorrow morning. Not too bad a thing for running, I know I would rather run in the rain than the 30 degrees heat we have had over the last few weeks. However this may cause a bit of an issue with our parking as we may not be able to use the field over the road, if it gets too wet.

However don’t panic we have a back up plan.
To assist, please car share where possible and allow a bit of extra time on your journey.
Depending on what the weather does and where we park you there may be the odd delay when leaving. If you need to get away promptly after the race please mention this to a parking marshal who will direct you accordingly.

Please remember that number collection closes at 10:15 so please allow sufficient time to park up and get to registration. The race is full so there will be no entries on the day or swapping of places.

The Guides will be supplying teas, coffees and cake. They will be situated on the ground floor of the Blues. Please support them and buy a drink and a bit of cake. They will be serving refreshments from about 9am onwards.

See you all on the start line tomorrow.

Regards

Gary and all the team at RMPAC

Round the Rock started life in 2008 as the RMPAC Silver Jubilee 10k, after which it was decided to hold the race on an annual basis, with the new name of Round the Rock voted for by club members. The route is undulating, predominately on tarmac roads and pavements, and takes you around the top of the Isle of Portland in a figure of eight, with a short loop of two and a half kilometres and a longer loop of seven and a half kilometres. You will be too busy taking in the sights as you pass the prison, admire the breath taking sea views and run past Pennsylvania castle to notice the distance you have covered!

The race start and finish is at the Blues Club Grove Road, Portland. This is the home ground of Portland United Football Club and parking, as well as toilet and changing facilities, are available. To get there by road head for Weymouth then follow the  signs for Portland on the A354. Follow the main road to the top of Portland to the Heights Hotel roundabout. Go straight across the roundabout to Easton. After approximately 300 yards you will pass the Chesil Beach Motors Garage and the Recycling Centre on your left, the next turning on the left is Grove Road. The PUFC ground is approximately 300 yards on your left. If using a Satnav enter the postcode DT5 1DP.

If you are travelling by bus catch the Route 1 service from the Kings Statue, Weymouth and ask for the Grove Corner stop. PUFC ground is approx. 300 yards along Grove Rd on the left. If you have any questions please use the contact us tab on our home page.
